Next year the Nordic travel fair MATKA is going to take place at the Helsinki Fair Centre from 15 to 18 January inclusive. MATKA is the biggest travel industry event in Northern Europe and the Baltic region. It gathered almost 85,000 visitors in January 2008. Of them 16,000 were travel trade visitors. This year there are several new exhibition areas, including Spa and Tasty travel which are expected to attract even more visitors.
The fair centre is located to the north of the city centre, close to the Pasila station. Several tram lines, buses and the rail have stops within the immediate vicinity of the fairgrounds, making access very easy and fast. Visitors in the city can stay close to the fair or in the city centre or close to the waterfront. Currently rooms are available from 100 to 200 EUR for 2 to 4 star hotels at key locations in the city. Visitors and exhibitors can choose a luxury or tourist class hotels depending on their budget. Prices are likely to increase in November and December with the peak of hotel rooms demand.
Despite being a capital city, Helsinki can hard offer sufficient accommodation for everyone during MATKA, thus early bookings are encouraged.
