Amsterdam is not only the capital of the Netherlands, but also the greatest financial and cultural centre of the country. With its unique architecture and canals, and multiethnic traditions, the city attracts annually over 4 million visitors, making this 5th most popular destination in Europe.

Amsterdam is rich in important museums. The Rijksmuseum possesses the largest and most important collection of classical Dutch art. There is also a museum dedicated to Van Gogh with some of his most famous paintings on display. Many others such as Anne Frank House , and the Rembrandthuis , to very large ones like the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdams Historisch Museum are all centrally located in the Museum Square .

Biking is by far the most popular means of transportation in the Dutch capital; the entire city is equipped with various biking ramps and facilities. Driving, on the other hand, can be difficult because of the narrow streets, the canals and the heavy traffic. Public transport in Amsterdam mainly consists of bus and tram lines, in addition there are four metro lines, with a fifth line under construction. Water transport for pedestrians include three free ferries, water taxis, a water bus, aand canal cruises.

With the large number of visitors all year round, the hotels in the city are always busy. Summers, just like major international holidays such as Christmas and New Years Eve are considered high season in Amsterdam. Room rates vary depending on the location, star rating and in-house amenities offered but generally they start from 60 EUR and can go as high as 200 EUR per night per room in a four to five star hotel. Peak periods can cause the prices to double and triple - this is especially true for trade fairs held at the RAI Amsterdam. During the biggest exhibitions a room in the Dutch capital may cost as much as 1,000 EUR a night.
